While traditional methods such as MRI and CT provide us with important information regarding the structure of the brain, fMRI provides the doctor with a window into brain function. The fMRI’s ability to identify functional areas in high resolution, as well as the neural pathways connecting them, provides essential information when planning and performing complex brain surgeries. The multi-systemic view of the fMRI together with the ability to identify brain activity that is independent of behaviour improves diagnosis of complex conditions and suggests directions of treatments and rehabilitation. The clinical service of the fMRI unit at Hadassah implements novel imaging methods in order to match each patient with the examination best fitting their condition and capabilities.
